Finding the right domain name

When every good domain name seems to be taken

You know the feeling.

You have an idea for a business, project or new website. You think of a name, search for the domain and it’s taken. You try another one. Taken again.

After a while, you’re searching names that sound like dog food brands.

The name suggestion tool in the client portal is there for the earlier part of that process, when you need a few ideas to work with.

Tell it what your business does, add some keywords if you have them, and it will suggest possible domain names. It then checks those ideas against the domain endings we offer, so you can see which ones might actually be available.

For example, you could describe yourself as:

A small bakery in York selling handmade sourdough bread

You can add keywords such as “bakery” or “sourdough”, then see what comes back.

It won’t choose your brand for you, and it probably shouldn’t. But it can get you past the blank page and give you something to react to.

Sometimes that’s all you need.

Find it in MyMidgard >  Websites > Purchase, then choose the option to suggest names.
