End of Life Software
Eventually all software stops being supported by it’s manufacturer, once that happens and bugs or security flaws cease to be fixed. Once it is no longer supported any malicious agents who discover a flaw may be able to gain access to your data and systems. For this reason it is important to ensure you are using a current version of your software so that patches are available. This ensures your software is secure.
Often the writers of the software will provide updates and bug fixes for a number of years after they have stopped selling the software, sometimes these updates will add additional functionality to the software. After these updates have stopped, there may still be bug and security updates for a while afterwards.
Below is a list of some of the more popular software packages and the dates when support finishes. (all dates are in ISO format)
